Behind the smile.
There is an entire world hidden behind a smile.
A world that most people will never see.
As you walk down the street, sit in a classroom, stand in line at a coffee shop, or pass someone in the grocery store, you never truly know what someone is carrying beneath the surface.
Someone could be holding back tears while offering a smile.
Someone could be fighting battles in their mind while laughing with their friends.
Someone could be carrying grief, heartbreak, anxiety, or self-doubt, yet still show up with kindness and positive energy.
We see the smile.
But we rarely see the story behind it.
So today, I want to give you a glimpse into mine.
Just like many of us, I struggle with self-doubt.
Not every day. Not every moment.
But often enough that I know exactly what it feels like when those thoughts begin to creep in.
The strange thing is, I love who I am.
I know I am one of a kind. We all are.
The value I bring into this world can never be duplicated. What makes me, me is uniquely mine.
And yet, there are moments when the voice inside my head tries to convince me otherwise.
Moments when I question myself.
Moments when I wonder if I am enough.
Moments when I struggle to accept the same love that I so freely give to others.
Why is it so easy to believe in everyone else, yet sometimes so difficult to believe in ourselves?
Why do we question our worth?
Why do we feel the need to earn love, rather than simply receive it?
Behind this smile of mine is a little girl who spent years believing she had to prove her worth.
A little girl who thought her value could be measured by accomplishments, achievements, grades, milestones, or how much she could do for others.
A little girl who believed that becoming "someone" was always one accomplishment away.
One more goal.
One more achievement.
One more milestone.
But as I've grown older, I've started to realize something.
I was never becoming someone.
I already was.
Behind this smile of mine is still that little girl, but now she is learning.
Learning that her worth isn't tied to productivity.
Learning that she doesn't have to earn her place in this world.
Learning that she is deserving of love, not because of what she accomplishes, but simply because she exists.
And maybe that's something many of us need to hear.
Maybe behind your smile is a younger version of yourself carrying similar beliefs.
Maybe you're still trying to prove that you're worthy.
Maybe you're still waiting for some future version of yourself to finally feel enough.
But what if you already are?
What if the person you've been trying so hard to become is simply waiting for you to recognize who you've been all along?
The truth is, your worth was never something you had to earn.
It was never hidden inside a degree, a relationship, a promotion, a number on a scale, or a dream you haven't achieved yet.
It has always belonged to you.
So if nobody has told you lately, let this be your reminder:
You are somebody now.
Not when you achieve more.
Not when you have everything figured out.
Not when you become the version of yourself you've imagined.
Now.
And behind your smile, behind your fears, behind your doubts, and behind every battle you've quietly fought, there is a person who has been worthy all along.
Maybe it's time you started believing them.
